Even though they live in the water, Dolphins are mammals and not fish. A mammal is an animal that has warm blood and feeds milk to their babies.
Baby dolphins stay with their mothers for more than a year. They learn how to survive on their own.
After a year they grow up into a full-grown dolphin. They leave their mother and go to survive in the ocean in their own group called a pod. Dolphins eat fish.
Dolphins are gentle and have helped swimmers before by pulling them back to shallow water. Humans have trained them to jump through hoops and find things under water to bring back. They talk to each other by whistling and grunting and humming. Dolphins are very, very smart. Mother dolphins sometimes sing lullabies to their babies.
I like dolphins because they are very smart and would like to see one someday.
